The Poconos Come to Maine???

Posted by Teresa Noelle Roberts

Two weekends ago, the Cat-Herder and I went to our beloved Ogunquit, Maine. Normally when we go up, we rent a simple cabin at a campground, Outdoor World Moody Beach. This particular weekend, though, we discovered they had nothing left but the “Dream Suite.” We took it. Hey, it had a hot tub. Hot tubs are good, especially on a cool weekend in Maine when you know you’ll be walking on the beach.

It was also pure 70s porno kitsch.

The Round Bed–slightly used

Mirrors and carpet(!) on the ceiling

Heart-shaped Tub

I couldn’t get a good picture of all the mirrors surrounding the round bed.

Tacky, and yet somehow inspirational. At first all the mirrors terrified me. I am, after all, forty-seven and not skinny. After a bit, the myriad images became depersonalized and I started seeing myself as a stranger might. And you know? I’m not bad. The heart-shaped tub was a little small for a couple who aren’t gymnasts, but hot tubs and cocktails are a lovely combination. And the round bed was remarkably comfortable. Yeah…comfortable.

Let’s just say I’m trying to figure out if I can use this place in a story. Certainly we had a good enough time there that, as an erotica writer, I should be able to take it off my taxes.

I leave you with some last pictures from Maine–not the cabin, but something else that made me laugh. (Tomorrow you’ll get the pretty pictures from the kite festival on Ogunquit Beach.)

  1. I love New England. It terrifies me, sometimes, but I do love it. 😉

Also? Oh my gods, that room is absolutely kitschtastic! I didn’t think places like that even still existed past Nevada or Seabrook, anymore!
