Romance Writer’s Peak Experience, part 2

Posted by Teresa Noelle Roberts

Seems like I’ve been away for a while, but actually, I’ve been right here at home, just not updating the blog much. Why? Well, last weekend our friends got married at our house, and we were a bit busy as a result.

Getting the yard and house into something resembling shape.

Back five and a half dozen cupcakes (here’s a sample–these were the caramel). The cake stand is made of vintage vinyl records, with a container full of beads to separate the layers. (They’re both DJs and she’s a jewelry designer.)

Writing a poem for the couple.

Helping entertain all the guests, and acting as the “honeymoon host” for the newlyweds both before and after the wedding.

Getting all emotional and choked up. A lot. Lorne and Heather were beaming the whole time, so beautiful and so joyous it made me smile and cry at the same. So much love, not just between them, but for them. This was largely a DIY wedding, and our cupcakes were only a small part of it. The bride made her dress, but on the night before the wedding, an insomniac guest stayed up until 5 AM to finish the groomsmen’s vests. The bride and groom made the favors and decorations, with help from various early arriving guests. Awesome friends (S&P, who went to New Orleans with us) catered an incredible feast. Another friend performed the ceremony. Someone loaned a 10×20 medieval canvas pavilion, which we used for the food. Everyone pitched in to set up, and at the end of the night, I found my brother-in-law doing dishes with my husband drying and the “caterers” packing up leftovers as stray guests brought in empty dishes from the yard.

Romance writers love their HEA endings–and I love knowing I contributed in my crazy cupcake baking insanity to the first day of Lorne and Heather’s HEA.

But I’m awfully glad we’re spending Labor Day weekend at my mom’s in the Land of Apples, where there’s nothing much to do!

  1. I know I’ve said it numerous times, but you can expect to hear it numerous more: thank you so much for all your hard work to make this wedding happen. We could not have done it without you! The cupcakes were delicious. The yard looked great. The house looked great until I exploded wedding paraphernalia all over it. 😛

And your poem was absolutely perfect for us. 🙂
